Engine blocks RACING Wunderlich BMW S 1000 R & M 1000 R (2021+)

The high-performance engine offers an excellent weight-to-performance ratio. Conversely, this means that the engine is very light and delicate relative to its performance, and offers less structural integrity in the event of a crash. If the engine case is damaged, continuing the ride becomes impossible. That is why the shape, material, and construction of our RACING skid plates provide optimal protection for the sides of the motorcycle, particularly for the engine and clutch, as well as for exposed components such as the water pump and alternator.

Tested in racing

We originally developed our RACING protective pads for racing and used them for Wunderlich MOTORSPORT. They are mounted with sturdy fasteners on both the right and left sides of the frame. On the left side, we use a torsion-resistant two-point mount for this purpose. For the right side, we designed a precision-milled adapter with a highly contoured shape, allowing the protective pad to be mounted with a snug fit.

No modifications to the fairing are necessary for installation!

The RACING protective pad is designed so that cutting the fairing is not necessary to bolt it to the frame. Clearing or cutting the fairing carries the risk of damaging it and, if necessary, requiring it to be repainted. All of this becomes unnecessary with our ingenious solution, which also allows for easy conversion of the protective pads while keeping the fairing’s original shape intact.

The protective pads spread apart the side panels, the engine, and the components during occasional contact or scraping against the ground or the road, thereby reducing or even preventing costly damage to the motorcycle. In addition to the choice of material, we have incorporated two essential specific properties into the design and tested them in racing conditions. Namely, shock absorption and friction resistance that gradually increase during the sliding phase.

The first positive characteristic mentioned is shock absorption, which is capable of absorbing some or all of the impact energy when sudden forces are applied. Friction resistance increases gradually during the sliding phase and shortens the scraping or sliding phase—regardless of the surface—both in terms of time and distance.
