The cylinders of a BMW Boxer engine are exposed. Flying rocks, a fall onto rough terrain, or scraping against a plastered wall while maneuvering in tight spaces can easily scratch the valve covers. For ShiftCam 1250 engines, the ShiftCam mechanism is particularly complex. Since the valve covers are mounted exclusively by friction, there is a risk that the valve cover could shift relative to the cylinder head upon impact, potentially affecting the complex timing mechanism. Therefore, additional protection for the valve covers is especially important. We have developed a set of well-designed protectors for this purpose. These are characterized by their precise fit to the valve cover with minimal clearance, requiring precise manufacturing.
The protector is made of impact-resistant, durable plastic. On the inner side facing the valve cover, we have structurally integrated segments made of a high-temperature-resistant elastic material. These segments are sized to absorb shocks based on their Shore hardness*). Their supporting and protective effect ensures that external forces and moments are absorbed and distributed evenly across the segments, thereby preventing load spikes. The high-quality design and function of the protectors are complemented by a recessed stainless steel insert. Although it serves a decorative purpose, it acts as an additional protective element to reduce the risk of valve covers being crushed and the associated oil loss. In this way, the protectors help reduce the risk of secondary damage—and ideally prevent it altogether. In many cases, they allow you to continue riding unimpeded after an incident. Installation is easy with the kit
PLEASE NOTE: Not compatible with Wunderlich engine protection bars (31740-30X and 41871-40X). The valve cover and cylinder guards are only compatible with standard BMW valve covers.
