An engine guard? Usually associated with trail bikes that sometimes go off-road. However, under-engine protection is also relevant for other types of motorcycles. Even hand guards were once reserved for enduro riders. The STREET Wunderlich engine guard with Tool Design deliberately applies the same quality standards and design principles as our ULTIMATE guard for the R 1300 GS and GS Adventure models. Its functional design and careful integration effectively protect the engine casing, oil pan, and manifolds. The skid plate fits snugly around the mechanical assembly, optimizing the frontal impact surface while maintaining ground clearance and lean angle. Its shape reduces the risk of ground contact—for example, when riding over curbs with a loaded motorcycle. Openings allow collected water to drain freely.

The angled deflectors effectively deflect stones and objects thrown up by the front wheel, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the manifolds and engine. Another advantage is that it channels water spray downwards—useful, for example, when driving through ruts—thus reducing thermal stress on the engine, manifolds, and gaskets, especially when they are hot. The complex shape and geometry of the component are the result of optimizing material thickness and weight while ensuring high rigidity and mechanical stability. The result is a durable skid plate, optimized in weight and shape, that fits organically around the engine—the perfect illustration of the principle of “form follows function.” The screws are recessed and have no exposed surfaces, which best emphasizes the angular design.

This high-end engine mount attaches securely to the vehicle's original mounting points. External forces and torques are distributed to reduce load peaks. Vibrations are effectively absorbed. True to Wunderlich, access for technical work is fully preserved – an opening is provided for draining. The aluminum skid plate is corrosion-resistant and coated in black with the Wunderlich logo.
